Program + Workshop Design: 100Kin10 Solution Labs

TLDR: development of a model that fosters collaborative action and joint funding to achieve collective impact

About 100Kin10:

100Kin10 unites over 300 top academic institutions, nonprofits, foundations, companies, and government agencies from across the country to address the nation’s STEM teacher shortage by training and retaining 100,000 excellent STEM teachers nationwide and tackling the underlying challenges that contribute to the shortage. By giving STEM teachers the support they need, we are helping to educate the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. Because the organizations in the network are so diverse, they all contribute to solving this challenge in different ways and 100Kin10 runs various programs to help them in their efforts.

GOOD Corps (where I worked at the time) worked with 100Kin10 staff to develop a model that fosters collaborative action on shared challenges and empowers participants to bring a concrete product, strategy, approach, or invention to life that is beyond the capacity of any single partner, achieving collective impact.

A substantial piece of this model is the Solution Lab—a unique, hackathon-inspired collaboration that convenes partners to use their time, effort, and skills in an intense period of work to enable powerful collective decisionmaking and solution design. In the first iteration of the lab, a sub-section of partners tackled the persistent issue of recruiting STEM teacher candidates.

Partners came together with professionals from national creative agencies, including Weiden + Kennedy and Blue State Digital, and through group design exercises developed an actionable solution: a national communications strategy that will inspire STEM undergraduate students to consider a career in teaching.

After the lab, GOOD Corps facilitated the development of an RFP and agency evaluations. Partners collectively selected media firm Cultivated Wit, and eventually co-funded the development of a shared toolkit that included:

  • Brand Identity

  • Animated Videos

  • Interactive Web Site

  • Shareable Static Infographics

  • Social Media Campaigns

My work on this project included:
Program Strategy, User Research, Workshop Development, Event Logistics, Collateral Design
